Yesterday, I went to the dentist to have two wisdom teeth extracted.
I chose a localized freezing as opposed to being put out for the procedure. I felt that I didn’t need the extra dose of chemicals, nor the risk associated with a general anaesthetic, as low as it might be. Plus, the procedure would take a lot less time.
One of the things I did do was to take an over-the-counter (OTC) pain reliever before the procedure. This allowed me to remain relatively pain-free during the time the freezing wore off and the wait to pick up my prescription for Tylenol 3. I also took my prophylactic dose of antibiotics, which is a requirement for anyone who has prosthetics.
I have made a point of remembering to take my antibiotics before any dental procedure. If you have prosthetics, is there a technique you use to remember to take your antibiotics?
Dark Dental Humour
I had requested a Friday appointment, but the receptionist told me that was the day that they put patients to sleep. “Oh, in that case, I’ll keep my Tuesday appointment, thank you very much!” (Note to receptionists: putting patients to sleep has a whole different connotation for pet owners!)
