I’ll resort to using the store’s shopping basket when I don’t feel like getting a shopping cart or bringing Jimmy in the store with me.
Carrying a basket, regardless how full, can be hard on my hands. Instead, I use the bigger muscles (that’s questionable
) of my arms to do the work.
By hugging the basket in towards me, I sneak in some isometric exercises.

It may be an indication that I’ve turned another chapter in the book that is my life! What do you think?
If I’m only getting a few items at the store, I now bring one of these – pictured at right – with me.
I don’t have to strain my hands with the shopping basket, nor do I have to do it again when I carry the bags out of the store.
Sometimes, I don’t want to go through all the hoopla of finding a cart, struggling to unlock it from the others (not easy with arthritic hands), and then repeating the process when I’m done shopping.
Update: I’ve decided to name my portable shopping cart ”Jimmy”, after Captain James Cook, a man who managed to travel extensively.
