#547 – Goal Accomplishment: Bundling and Trust

On Alter Your Course, I listed a few things that help me wander the circuitous path that rheumatoid arthritis (RA), has set out for me. While I’m not always 100% successful at doing them, I manage to find my way back whenever I stray off-course.

How are you doing with those New Year’s vows? Have you been successful with the changes that you’ve promised yourself? Perhaps your resolutions were cast in plaster and the icy winter weather has quickly caused them to crumble.

When you decide that self-flagellation, via the guilt train, is no longer viable, it’s time to travel a different route.

#454 – Nearing Hearing Loss?

I wear hearing aids, which are not any fun, nor do they fully replicate the sounds that I have lost. They’re also expensive, and they require maintenance. It’s so much easier not to have to use them.

I was at an HOOM event, where I met Rahim Ghanbari, an audiologist who works in North Vancouver. We had a brief discussion about the excessive volume that one encounters in public spaces, such as restaurants, malls and swimming pools. I expressed my concern that the volume was exceeding recommended allowances, going so far as to threaten to wander around with a decibel reader, if I could rent one.

“There’s no need to rent one,” said Rahim. “Just check out an app called Decibel 10th.”

I did, and I installed it. I’ve used it a few times, and I’m not surprised by the readings.

Why not use your decibel reader to see if you agree with the title of this show on CBC’s Q: Are restaurants too noisy?

The Wisequacks, two doctors who impart medical information with humour, have written iPods Are Music To Your Ears. I particularly like the blade of grass analogy that is used to explain how the hair cells in the inner ear are impacted by noise.

#428 – Why I Don’t Get Around Much Anymore

Bloggers know that maintaining a blog takes time. As you may know, I have decided to add another one-hundred daily posts to this blog—ART, for short. I also post twice a week over on my other blog, Auntie Stress Café. Additionally, I work with people as they take on stress, assisting them to make changes that work for them, so that their life works well.

As I practise what I preach, I devote time and energy to undressing my stress, exercise, getting enough rest, socializing and doing what restores me. Then, there are all those other things that are on everyone’s list. Things like keeping the house clean, laundry, grocery shopping preparing wholesome meals, and since I’ve just begun, taxes. That makes for a full and satisfying day – except for the tax part! 🙂

The blogosphere is full of wonderful posts, delightful people, interesting viewpoints and great information. Unfortunately, with time constraints, I don’t get around as much as I’d like. When I do visit, I don’t stay overly long, and more often than not, I leave a comment, which also takes time.

Another reason I don’t get around much anymore is because I wish to keep a fresh perspective on my work, so that I may present you with a different way of moving through life with rheumatoid arthritis.

Never mind there being an app for that, there seems to be a song for that, too! 🙂 I’ll often find myself singing a song after writing down a few words in a post. Suffice to say that I’m not known for my singing abilities – just ask my friends and family. I do like to sing, so you’ll just have to be thankful for the small things – like the fact that you can’t hear me singing along with Tony Bennett and Michael Bublé. 🙂
